Transit Visas

Foreign nationals wishing to enter the United States while transiting to other foreign countries will need to obtain a C-1 Transit Visa.  This non-immigrant visa will allow individuals to travel in and out of the U.S. even when their final destination is in a different country.  Almost all foreign nationals traveling through the United States to other destinations are eligible for C-1 transit visas.  Individuals holding B-1 Business Visas or B-2 Tourist Visas will not need to obtain a C-1 Transit Visa as well as individuals participating in the Visa Waiver Program.  Individuals holding C-1 Transit Visas are permitted to stay in the U.S. for a maximum of 29 days, and are required to leave the U.S. on the proposed flight or ship of departure.

In order for an individual to be eligible for a C-1 Transit Visa, the must be able to demonstrate the following requirements:

  • Intend to pass in immediate and continuous transit through the United States.
  • Possess a common carrier ticket or other evidence of transportation arrangements to your destination.
  • Have sufficient funds to carry out the purpose of the transit journey.
  • Have permission to enter another country upon departure from the United States.
